Family Photo Collages…

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Well I’ve become addicted to getting prints of my photography work :) I did a lot of shooting for family on Thanksgiving, and because small children were involved, there was a *lot* of movement going on. And movement can unfortunately cause blurriness in pictures, so not even half of them turned out as nicely as I’d like. They are really nice pictures though, so this morning I decided to combine some of the favorites into a photo collage. And here’s the first two…

I really like the way these came out and plan to print them for hanging on the wall in my studio.

Graduating Marines at Parade Rest

In my opinion, the official graduation ceremony was just for show. The “real” graduation took place on Family day (Thursday) when the boys got their official pins. I’ll have pictures of that up here soon…

Marine Recruit Motivational Run

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

One of the big events on family day at the MCRD is The Motivational Run. This picture shows part of a platoon of recruits with their drill instructor running beside them and yelling commands.

Marine Recruits Doing the Moto Run

If you go to this event when your own new Marine graduates, you may find this tip helpful:

Don’t try to get a good view point under the arches. You’ll be in the wrong place. When standing under the arches looking at the run area, you’ll see a parking lot. And this is where you need to be. There are signs with platoon numbers on them at the start of the parking lot, and those signs are the “front” of the viewing line for the Moto run. The recruits will run between that location and the arches.

If you can’t get to the very front of that viewing area though, then go to the very back. Once the platoons run one direction, they’ll circle around and run behind the crowd too. So anyone at the very back will have a “front row” position at the end of the run.

Band & Flags Picture Day…

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

School started here yesterday, but the Band and Flags (Color Guard) Teams had their formal pictures taken last Thursday. The color guard girls were wearing their summer uniform and holding the performance flags. I think they came out beautifully :)

I already got a couple of prints of the above picture, it’s beautiful :)

Here’s Amanda doing a brief bit of one of the flag routines.

And here she’s simply trying another pose. She loves to pose :)

Marine Bootcamp Graduation…

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Daniel Burns, June 2007. On August 31, 2007, my son Daniel (or Danny as I still call him ;)) will be graduating from Marine Bootcamp in San Diego, California.

I am *really* looking forward to this trip. Not only do I get to see him again of course, but I also get a road trip! We’ll be making pit stops in Tucson, AZ to see family, and I’m planning to enjoy some of the sites I haven’t been able to for several years.

I’m hoping to go to the Palo Verde swap meet, the mall, Bookman’s, and if there’s time: Tanque Verde Falls. Between pit stops of course are driving jaunts of at least 8 hours each, so I also plan to make frequent photo stops ;)

I know Danny’s looking forward to being able to talk to and see friends again too, so this should all be lots of fun!
