Jones Water Campground in Arizona

A long shot of our campsite
Last week’s camping trip found us at a little campground just north of Globe AZ. We went out as usual planning to find a forest road and drive down it till we found us a nice spot to set up camp for the week. It took us longer to get up into the area though because of construction, so by the time we were in the Tonto National Forest it was dead dark. The roads were steep in places, plus winding and twisty. So as soon as we saw the campground sign we pulled over to take stock. I had downloaded a list of primitive camping sites before leaving, so we brought that up and discovered Jones Water was one of them. It didn’t cost anything to stay at so we decided to go in and find a spot. At worst we’d just sleep for the night then go looking for a forest road in the morning.
When we woke up and looked around though, we decided to stay there for the week
It seemed pretty nice and quiet, and it’s the first dispersed or primitive campground we’ve found which had an outhouse, picnic tables, and full firepit grills.

Solar Panels in the rain
I didn’t end up taking a lot of pictures this time unfortunately, but we plan to go back soon. There was a family of javelinas living there too – two large ones and two small ones – and that was kinda cool. Having them snort at me from the bushes just a few feet away when walking back from the potty in the dark was definitely scary though!
