Marine Recruit Motivational Run

One of the big events on family day at the MCRD is The Motivational Run. This picture shows part of a platoon of recruits with their drill instructor running beside them and yelling commands.

Marine Recruits Doing the Moto Run

If you go to this event when your own new Marine graduates, you may find this tip helpful:

Don’t try to get a good view point under the arches. You’ll be in the wrong place. When standing under the arches looking at the run area, you’ll see a parking lot. And this is where you need to be. There are signs with platoon numbers on them at the start of the parking lot, and those signs are the “front” of the viewing line for the Moto run. The recruits will run between that location and the arches.

If you can’t get to the very front of that viewing area though, then go to the very back. Once the platoons run one direction, they’ll circle around and run behind the crowd too. So anyone at the very back will have a “front row” position at the end of the run.
